How to get a Salon blow dry at home.

Many times when we are blow drying out clients we are told “I wish I could get it to look like that at home” well you can! Just follow these simple tips and your hair will be full of life, lustre and volume.

As usual the preparation is key, So make sure you have freshly washed, clean hair which has been towel dried. It will make your life so much easier if you have the correct tools in front of you too, I would suggest these be the following :

  • A decent hairdryer

  • Sectioning clips

  • Comb or de tangling brush

  • A round brush

  • Heat protection

  • And any styling product you wish to finish with

Step 1

Start by rough drying your hair with your fingers and the hair dryer on a medium heat and speed, I would suggest drying your hair until it’s around 80% dry. At this stage you can also use a heat protection spray to help protect your hair against any heat damage, we would recommend the Wella EIMI Thermal image as it protects against heat up to 220 and smooths your hair for a shiny flawless finish.

Step 2

Comb your hair through and create your parting with your comb, this can be Center or side depending on the style your going for.

Step 3

Pop your volume enhancing product on, this ideally will be in some form of mouse we highly recommend Wella’s EIMI Root Shoot for this as it helps create a free flowing style whilst oozing volume without the stickiness of some other products.

Step 4

Dry the front sections first, this is because the front of our hair tends to dry quickest so by drying it first and pinning it with “no dent” clips it allows us to create our blow dry without re damping the hair.

Step 5

Starting from the nape take 1 inch sections of your hair and dry each section with your round brush. Take hair from closest to the root with the brush underneath (careful not to singe your scalp, hairdryer nozzles can get hot), and gently tug upwards and outwards, rolling the brush underneath as you go. Using the brush roll the hair at the end around the bristles to create a gentle curl.

Tip : When drying, always make sure your hairdryer is angled down, as this will make the hair cuticle smooth and shiny.

Step 6

Finally you can give your hair a quick cool blast as this help to “set” your hair in place, then apply a finishing product we love the Wella Glam most as it so light on the hair as well as giving enormous amounts of glossy shine.

We hope this has given you some inspiration to try out your own home blow dry, don’t be too hard on yourself tho we can all be fingers and thumbs to begin with and there’s a reason you come to the salon for your hair but it’s just nice to give it that freshen up blow dry in between appointments.
